Feifer Assessment of Mathematics

Welcome to Education Access. We are very pleased to be running this 3 hour SASC approved course on the FAM, in conjunction with PRAXIS CPD, which will contribute towards your core CPD hours for APC renewal (C1 and C2)

Course Summary

This is a pre-recorded presentation exploring the FAM in relation to correct administration and scoring, including key statistics, key domain general areas, specific domain areas (number sense), impact on the learner and recommendations when report writing, incorporating aspects of the APC renewal criteria.

Course Detail

This FAM course is SASC approved, following the most up-to-date SASC guidelines, using the FAM in the context of an assessment specifically investigating the possibility of dyscalculia.

The scheme is suitable for everyone with an interest in assessing for maths difficulties, and/ or who are qualified to specifically diagnose dyscalculia as a specific learning difficulty. It will:

  • give you confidence in the requirements and expectations of using the FAM in diagnostic reports;
  • help you report your findings, including which areas the FAM assesses and how these contribute to a potential diagnosis;
  • confirm and reinforce your existing good practise;
  • reflect your commitment to the professional standards required by practitioners;

It will guide you through the three composite areas: procedural, verbal and semantic in regards to administration and scoring, as well as some recommendations and the impact upon a learner, following the APC criteria and using the up to date SASC guidance on assessing for maths

At the end of each section, there are some quiz questions for you to answer and there is also a statistical significance exercise for you to complete about comparing composite scores within the FAM.
